Think Pilates is just for women? Well, we know that Pilates is mainly practiced by women, but did you know that Pilates was actually created by a man for men? So how do we get more men through the door of a Pilates studio and keep them coming back for more? Well, earlier this summer Blair attended a workshop by Jamie Isaac titled Real Men Do Pilates at the Pilates Empowerment Summit in Miami, FL where she took away some helpful knowledge when it comes to teaching the male Pilates client. When instructing men on Pilates exercise, Jamie suggests "less frills and more thrills by getting them moving, using simple language, using less imagery, and letting things slide in the name of better flow. Also, play to their strengths and offer solutions rather than highlight their issues. Utilize exercises that interest men and have strong physicality." Remember they are men so "Give it Grr!" This is how you get them through the door and keep them coming back for more!

Over the past decade more professional male athletes have been turning to Pilates to improve their movement efficiency, endurance, speed, core strength, and flexibility. MLB Pitcher, Jake Arrieta says, "Pilates has helped a lot, but not necessarily my stamina or endurance or even being in shape. I’ve been in shape my entire life. Pilates has helped me understand my body even further because it requires a lot of balance in very compromising and uncomfortable positions. So being able to have good technique and good body control in Pilates is something that requires a lot of mental strength. It’s no different than when I’m on the mound going through my delivery out there.” So men, don't be lame, get your head in the game! Do Pilates!
